Palmer in Singapore:
2015 did not enter ('third driver' with Lotus)
2016 Renault: qualified 19th, finished 15th
Jolyon Palmer is the son of former Formula One driver, Jonathan Palmer, and was one of three rookie drivers on the 2016 grid. The British racer spent 2015 as the reserve driver for Lotus and made a number of free practice appearances for the Enstone-based squad that year.
In his years in the junior formulae, Palmer raced in T-Cars and his father’s Formula Palmer Audi and Formula Two series before starting his GP2 career in 2011.
In total, Palmer spent four years in the Formula One feeder series and drove for Arden, iSport, Carlin and DAMS during that time. It was with DAMS that he took four wins on the way to the title in 2014.
In 2016, Palmer struggled to make an impression in the difficult RS16. But things got better in the second half of the season and he scored his first F1 point with a tenth place finish at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
